The Miniature American Shepherd (at the time known as the Miniature Australian Shepherd) was first developed in the late 1960s by breeding small size Australian Shepherds. The Minis share many traits with the Aussie Shepherds including their intelligence, variety of coat colors and herding tenacity. They are still found on working ranches and make excellent agility dogs.
