The Bullmastiff could be called the first designer dog breed...British Estate Game Keepers crossed Bulldogs with Mastiffs to develop a powerful dog trained not to hunt the game, but to pin any poachers they found to the ground until the Game Keeper arrived. They are know in some circles as Brooklyn War Terriers.
