Named after piles of stones that marked boundaries in the Scottish Highlands, the Cairn Terrier is one of the oldest and smallest of the Terrier Breeds. The most famous Cairn is Toto from the Wizard of Oz, who was a rescued Cairn named Terry.

Behind the Art

Once upon a time there was a little girl who loved horses and dogs and painting. After college, she was painting horses and dogs on everything from jean jackets to cowboy boots to ceramic tile murals and in 1989 M. K. Zeppa Studios was born.

That little girl was me...M. K. (short for Melissa Kaye) Zeppa... and I still paint every ceramic piece and custom pet portrait the studio produces.

As the studio grew, we developed a line of digitally decorated items that feature reproductions of my paintings on note cards, beverage coasters, mugs etc. We have built a huge digital library of breeds (over 250) and we add to it every year. Why so many? Because you ask for them!

All the items are produced in house in our Southwestern Virginia studio, to order. We only warehouse blank "canvases" and that means you can create, with our help, exactly what your heart desires. You can get your dog (or cat or horse) on it!
