When the Lab Assistants needed new dog food bowls last year, I took the opportunity to try out a new technique. (The boys have been eating out of my experiments all their lives.) Instead of underglaze painting covered in a clear glaze, I used layers of different glazes on the bowls to create a rustic, almost stoneware-like finish with a Lab silhouette in the center. The technique doesn't allow for greatly detailed painting, but the results were elegant and tough enough for daily Lab use.
After posting pictures of the boys' bowls on-line, we naturally got asked for other breeds. Funny how that works. So now you can order any dog his or her very own hand painted bowl.
